Recently I was invited by Homewood Suites by Hilton to “get in a New York State of Mind” to spend an evening at their first ever Manhattan location and attend Billy Joel’s concert at Madison Square Garden.
Immediately in my mind, I was eager for a night away from home. It’s always enticing to spend the night at a hotel even if it’s just in a different neighborhood. Many leisure travelers have extended stays which have become more popular. I was intrigued to see how much space can they fit into a typical New York City sized room.
The hotel is located in the heart of Manhattan on 37th Street between 8th & 9th avenues. Upon entering the lobby I was greeted by the front desk staff who were friendly & courteous. I checked in & was given the key to my room on the 6th floor.
The lobby was quite busy with guests dining on dinner. A surprising hotel amenity is complimentary dinner Monday to Thursday evenings with unlimited wine & beer. Definitely an asset since food prices are expensive in this area. Of course they have complimentary breakfast but I was pleased to find out the next morning that it was indeed quite a buffet.
Upon entering my room, I was so impressed! It’s a standard size room but it was equipped with a kitchen filled with the necessities. A full sized refrigerator which I appreciated. Many times I have purchased food for my family & can never fit it into the dorm sized fridge. There was a stove, sink and a dishwasher. The kitchen even came equipped with dishes & utensils. It definitely felt like home.
I had a full sized bed. I didn’t know what to do with all that space! The bed was comfortable. There was a small sofa which pulls out to a bed as well. A flat screen HD TV hung on the wall with cable ready channels. My room faced the street which wasn’t much of a view.
The reception was held on the rooftop. I took the elevator up & was greeted with an amazing view of the city. A buffet was served which was delicious. It was a beautiful New York City night. We were given a mini tour of the hotel. On the main floor, there is also an outdoor seating area where guests can relax & chill. There’s a fitness center equipped with up to date cardio & weight equipment. Details of New York are painted across the walls which gives it a “New York State of Mind.”
After our tour we headed to Madison Square Garden where we spent the rest of the evening serenaded by the Piano Man himself Billy Joel. What an amazing show! He sang all his classics that brought back memories of my childhood. He was funny and a typical New Yorker. It was a great way to cap off the night!
This was the perfect getaway for me. It felt good to not have my “mom” cap on for a night and just be me. I highly recommend it!
