This summer has totally flown by. I know I have said this so many times so far but school starts on Wednesday for Andre. The weather is cooling off and the leaves are changing colors! Yes I have witnessed falling leaves. It’s incredible.
Andre spent the majority of his days at summer camp. This year he qualified for the Harlem RBI Real Kids program. It’s a FREE program in East Harlem. It’s an amazing program that we are fortunate to have in our neighborhood. Beside teaching kids the fundamentals of baseball, they also receive academics. I was hesitant about Andre attending because I wasn’t gung ho about him having to wear a baseball uniform everyday. I wasn’t sure if he would enjoy playing baseball either. Boy did he prove me wrong!
The program brought out skills in Andre that I didn’t know he had. Is that bad to say? I didn’t know my son is a really great baseball player. So good that his team overcame challenges and won the Championship game! Los Tigres are #1! I didn’t get to attend any of his games because they were played during the day. Thankfully my mom was there as his cheering squad. When I found out his team made the championship game, I made it a point to leave work early. I am so ecstatic that I did.
The game displayed such athleticism from these kids that was amazing for 8-10 year olds that have only played together for 8 weeks. My son made catches that had me in awe. He made an impressive catch at 3rd base with a foul ball pop up that everyone in the stands cheered. That was my son!
I want to thank Harlem RBI for an amazing summer. Growing up in East Harlem, I didn’t have these opportunities. I am thankful that Andre does.
If you are in the East Harlem or South Bronx area, get your child signed up to Harlem RBI next summer. Or even for the school year programs. It’s a free program which is rare to find. Their strong academic assistance ensures that your child will achieve. Their goal is to make sure each and every child is accepted to college. They get your kid off the street and keep them busy enough after school. They are truly an amazing program.
Disclosure: No compensation was received for this post. Just wanted to express my gratitude to Harlem RBI!
