Andre was on spring break last week. Since we didn’t get to go away in February, I yearned for some sun & an escape from the city. My hubby had to work so I decided on a mother/son weekend trip. We haven’t had one by ourselves in awhile. It seems like someone is always away with us so this was a great opportunity to bond with my tween.
I decided a quick getaway to Orlando was feasible. We could visit with my brother & his family and get to meet my brand new great-niece! Since we only had 3 nights, time was limited so I wanted to try to do as much as possible but allowing time to just chill by the pool. I booked us at the Sheraton Lake Buena Vista.
I am a SPG member so we were upgraded to the top floor with a balcony facing the pool. There are 3 pools. It seemed to be separated by adults, kids & infants. The kids pool had 2 basketball hoops which was a blessing. Being Andre is a basketball player, he immediately went to that one. There was a slide as well in the adult pool, but it seemed like all the kids were playing basketball. With a bit of coaxing & a kick, Andre was able to leave me alone and meet new people. He tends to be a bit shy & a loner, so he always wants me to play with him in the pool. I was relieved that he actually left me alone for a bit so I can get in some rays.
Our room was basic with 2 double beds. It was comfortable. I couldn’t figure out how to manage the air conditioner which was annoying. It would go on & off. Sometimes we just wanted it off.
For dining options, Zest is located in the hotel lobby. There is also the 27 Palms Grill by the pool. They usually have a $5 drink special in the afternoon. They have a market place in the lobby if you want some coffee or snacks. I always feel like the hotel overcharges for items so we opted to take a walk. 7Eleven is across the street so we stocked up on snacks & water for the room. There are also several restaurants such as Pizza Hut, Ihop or Olive Garden nearby.
The hotel is located mere blocks away from the Walt Disney Parks and Disney Springs. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus to take you to & back during set hours. Be sure to ask the front desk for a schedule. Or you can take an Uber, which is what we did. It cost under $10 for a one way ride. We checked in on a Friday afternoon. It seemed that they hosted a manager welcome party in the lobby with complimentary drinks & food. We weren’t made aware of it when we checked in. Had we known, we would have joined instead of eating out. So it’s always best to ask at the front desk what the activities are during your stay.
We had a great time. We did not head to Disney but rather to Hollywood Studios & to Seaworld. Andre had never been to Seaworld so I figured it was the perfect opportunity. I will have a separate post on that.
If you’re looking for a reasonable priced hotel, that is not far from the parks I suggest the Sheraton. It was always filled with families so your kid(s) will definitely end up meeting new friends. Which will give you some me time!
