Last month we headed to a wedding in Connecticut for hubby’s friend. We decided to make it a weekend getaway without Andre. It would be a much needed break from the hectic life we have. I was grateful that I was given a loaner by my favorite friends at Drive shop. This time we were lent the 2016 Mazda Cx-5 Grand Touring vehicle in Soul Red.
This was my first time driving a Mazda. We have always owned SUVs so I was able to do comparisons. The Mazda was recently named as the 2015 Top Safety Pick Plus by the IIHS when equipped with the Smart City Brake Support. I felt safe & secure riding in a 3 hour road trip in it. It was a much “lighter” vehicle than any other SUV’s that I have driven in. The car didn’t feel heavy. There was plenty of legroom which is something we look for since hubby is 6’4. It fits 5 people comfortably.
What was unique in the Mazda was the center knob that allows you to control the entertainment and navigation system. While it was a bit confusing to learn how to use the navigation system initially we did figure it out. I personally preferred the touch screen to maneuver around.
Hubby liked that the vehicle was efficient on fuel. We didn’t have to refuel until our way back home. Normally you think that large vehicles waste more gas but with the Skyactiv Technology, Mazdas are precision vehicles that are developed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
I also like the vehicle detection in your blind spot. A light will shine if there is a car next to you on either side so you know not to cut over to the next lane. I think it was very useful and innovative. How many times have you had to swerve over because you didn’t see that car in your blind spot?
Overall we had a great week with the Mazda Cx-5 Grand Touring. If you are on the search for a new family vehicle I suggest you take it for a test ride. It’s stylish and roomy like a mini van without the soccer mom look. Prices start at $21,795 MSRP excluding taxes and extra amenities.
Check out our video reviews on our YouTube channel. Andre did his own on what he liked & disliked about the car! You can find them here.
